Simple Fish Tacos with Cumin Lime Slaw

Earlier this week I made a large amount of sunny and fresh cumin and lime coleslaw, but I didn’t intend to eat only coleslaw all week. So I used the coleslaw as a filling for these super easy fish tacos. I love making Tacos for dinner because they are so easy, fresh and not too heavy, which is great when it’s 100 degrees outside. I like to keep my Tacos pretty simple (in this case, just fish, coleslaw, Jalape├▒o, and avocado), but I have a few suggestions below for additional toppings if you want them! čśë

WHAT’S IN A FISH TACO?

For this Fish Taco recipe, I seasoned white fish fillets with a simple mixture of chili powder, cumin, garlic and salt, then I quickly cooked them in a pan. I topped them with a spicy coleslaw with cumin and lime, a slice of creamy avocado and a few super thin Jalape├▒o slices. It’s the perfect blend of earthy, spicy, creamy and spicy.

WHAT KIND OF FISH IS BEST FOR TACOS?

I used cod fillets for my fish tacos because they have a mild flavor that can easily be combined with spices or toppings. You can also use something like Tilapia, halibut, Mahi-Mahi, snapper or grouper. I usually get the best prices on frozen Fillets, and they usually come individually wrapped, so you can defrost as many as you need and store the rest in the freezer for after.

MORE FISH TACO TOPPINGS

Tacos are fun because you can get creative with the toppings. If you would like to replace some of the fillings I used with something else or simply complement what is indicated in the recipe below, here are some ideas:

WHAT KIND OF TORTILLAS?

Corn tortillas are the traditional Option for Tacos, but use what you prefer. Cooking is about doing what works for you. So if you like flour tortillas or crispy taco shells better, or if you have them on hand, use them. čÖé If you use corn tortillas, make sure to roast them before making your Tacos in order to get that delicious grilled corn flavor (otherwise they will somehow not taste like it). And keep in mind that if you use larger Tortillas, you will get fewer Tacos from the ingredients listed below.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH FISH TACOS

Two Tacos don’t make a meal, so here are some side dish ideas:

  • Quickly seasoned black beans
  • Easy Taco Rice
  • Rainbow Salad Of Roasted Sweet Potatoes
  • Cumin lime roasted sweet potatoes
  • Warm Corn And Avocado Salad
  • Charred Corn And Zucchini Salad
